Engine vs. Turbine

There are three circumstances that usually dictate the need for engine driven Water-Reels instead of turbine driven Water-Reels.

When these three factors are not involved, the turbine driven models are the best choice. The turbines requires less service and attention than the engines. Most operators prefer the operating simplicity of a turbine. There are no oil changes, no gas tanks to fill, and no engines to start. With a turbine driven model, when the pump runs, the turbine runs. When the pump stops, the turbine stops.

• High Travel Speed - An engine driven model should be used if high travel speeds are needed for light applications (0.3 inches of water or less). Engine driven travelers are capable of speeds two times that of turbine drives.
• Slurry Application - If the Water-Reel is applying slurry or any substance that contains significant solids, an engine driven model should be used. Usage of a turbine driven model in a slurry application is limited due to the size of particles that can pass through a turbine motor.
• Marginal Water Pressure. If the pressure of the water is marginal it may be wise to choose an engine driven machine. The turbine driven system will take approximately 6 to 10 psi to power the turbine, depending on the speed of travel. This additional pressure at the sprinkler may be critical.

Kifco-Caprari PTO Pumps Kifco-Caprari centrifugal PTO pumps are designed to suit all types of irrigation systems. These rugged and efficient pumps are usually supplied mounted on a two wheeled cart, making them very easy to handle. Pumps are supplied with the cart, PTO drive shaft, and weld-on companion flanges or fitted with priming valve, primer, pressure gauge, and suction adapter. A dependable step-up gearbox is an integral part of these well proven pumps. The gearbox shafts are supported by heavy duty widely spaced bearings. The box is oil lubricated and some models are also water cooled.

Traveling Irrigation Machines

Ag-Rain manufactures a complete line of traveling irrigation machines to fit many different needs. Engine driven machines are available for applications where water quality does not permit the use of a turbine.

Radial Inflow Turbine - The heart of the drive system. This extremely efficient turbine motor delivers quiet, smooth, and continuous power.

Engine Drive - A gasoline engine replaces the turbine motor. Engine drives are usually selected when the water contains solids that will plug the turbine, when it is critical to avoid the 10 psi pressure loss across the turbine, or if there is a high speed requirement.

Polyethylene Tube - Only PE tube designed and constructed for the constant coiling and dragging is considered for use on Ag-Rain Water-Reels. The tubing is backed by a 5-year pro-rated warranty. P.E. Tube Repair - A simple "screw-in" mender is available for repairing the PE tube should it become damaged for any reason.
